It was a touching scene as Joe Biden spoke for the first time on the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Shortly before speaking to a record four people Sunday morning, campaign staff told the media how deep and genuine his relationship with Ginsburg was and that Joe was eager to ‘speak from the heart’.
“Whoa, a microphone. Is someone giving a speech?” Biden asked as he was ushered into the Delaware gym. Soon Joe learned that he was the speaker and promptly melted hearts everywhere with this unforgettable tribute:
“Ok. uhhhh Up a little more. That’s too far. Well, uhhhhhhh now I can’t read it. Can you zoom in any more? Ya know what? I wish I could just forget the damn old thing,”
And with that, Biden shuffled off the stage.
“Ya know, guys. I’m telling you, there wasn’t a dry eye in the building,” NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reported. “And when Joe said, ‘I wish I could forget the old damn thing,’ that was actually very powerful because I believe that was his nickname for Ruth.”
But as always, the sweet moment was ruined by Fox News as reporter, Peter Doocy yelled, “You do know about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, right?” To which Biden replied, “No, I don’t follow baseball.”
