12-Year-Old Bernie Sanders Once Convinced Kids Cleaning His Room Should be a “Community Effort”

The Glorious American has uncovered a remarkable story about a young Bernie Sanders.

In the summer of 1953, a 12-year old Bernie Sanders persuaded roughly a dozen neighborhood kids to clean his room.

“Oh yes. I’ll never forget little Bernie standing on stage waving his arms all over,” said our source who wishes to remain anonymous.

“Little Bernie was notorious for his filthy room,” our source continued. “I mean, you could smell that thing from the curb. So one day he explained that, while it was technically his room, it had been around long before his family moved in and would be around long after he moved out. So really it was America’s room,” recalled the source. “Cleaning it should be a community effort.”

But while the young Sanders’ speech was inspiring, most of the kids were not quick to take up Bernie’s cause.

“That’s when Bernie promised that, if the room were to be cleaned, loads of free candy, bicycles, and toys would fall from the sky!” our source said while doing jazz hands.

“The toddlers were Sanders’ biggest supporters. They really believed his filthy room was an existential threat. But they thought the 4th and 5th graders should clean it. And the 4th and 5th graders thought the rich kids should do the heavy lifting.”

Ultimately, the room was never cleaned. The neighborhood became deeply divided and many historians believe this incident was the origin of the Great Brooklyn Famine, which lead to the starvation of thousands.
