Joe Biden finished last week with a flurry of gaffs. The slip-up getting the most attention was Joe proclaiming, “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids!” to a confused Iowa crowd.
On Sunday, while visiting a Des Moines diner, Joe tried to mend some bridges with African-American voters.
“Listen, folks” Biden began. “All this hubbub about me being insensitive to black people is ridiculous. And how can I be a racist anyway—some of my best friends are poor kids!” he proudly exclaimed.
That statement was met with audible gasps throughout the diner.
Noticing the room had turned on him Biden instinctively began looking for a pair of shoulders to rub.
The awkward silence was eventually broken by a senior member of the Biden campaign screaming, “DAMN IT, JOE! BEING POOR IS NOT EXCLUSIVELY A BLACK THING! THERE ARE PLENTY OF POOR WHITE PEOPLE TOO!”
Update: Being yelled at by the staffer sent Biden running out of the diner and he scurried under his campaign bus to hide. Many campaign members were seen offering him treats if he came out. Biden eventually crawled out after the staff began cheering “The election’s over! You won! You’re president, Joe!”
