Veteran Father Returns Home, Surprises Daughter After Posing As Mrs. McAfee For Full Semester

It was a touching scene at Roseburg’s Fullerton Elementary School Monday when Sergeant Pete Spencer surprised his 10 year-old daughter Riley by returning home from his tour in Iraq.

In a dramatic reveal, Sergeant Pete stunned Riley as he slowly took off the mask of Mrs. McAfee—the 84 year-old 5th grade teacher he had been impersonating for the entire semester.

“Oh yeah, she was blown away for sure!” a smiling Sergeant Pete told local TV cameras. “She had no idea that was me for 15 weeks! I knew the longer I came to school dressed in this Mrs. Doubtfire-type get-up the better the surprise would be for her.”

And it wasn’t just Riley who was surprised. During the reveal, all 23 fifth graders began screaming and tried to exit the room. Some of the children even managed to escape via the windows and the air duct system. Spencer remarked, “I thought it was sweet the other boys and girls wanted to give us a bit of privacy so quickly as we reconnected.”

The press did take notice that little Riley became briefly unconscious when her father took off the mask. When she finally awoke her father reminded her she was loved very much and her science project was due on Thursday.

Naturally, Mrs. McAfee served in Iraq in Sergeant Peters’ place. During her 15 week deployment the 84 year-old woman was an unmistakable burden on our military.
