WASHINGTON, DC — During Saturday’s Instagram live session, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wondered aloud if imprisoned WNBA player Brittney Griner was being detained in an imaginary jail cell and handcuffs.
“Do you guys remember when I was wrestled to the ground by the police, and I was screaming, ‘I can’t breathe’ and ‘don’t touch my booty’ like a civil rights hero?” AOC began. “Well, the handcuffs I had were VERY forgiving on the wrists. I had great freedom of motion while in them. Do you guys know if Brittany is locked up in that type? If so, she’ll be able to walk right out!”
When AOC’s remarks reached Brittany, it was furious and relayed the following comment:
“That dumb b—-. Of course, my handcuffs and jail cell are real!”
“Oh my word, it’s trying to date me,” AOC shrieked. “I can’t believe I worked so hard for that thing’s freedom. But no, now—it can rot in Bezelstan, or wherever it’s at, for the rest of the world’s existence. Which is seven years.”
Update: After snapping at AOC, the Washington Post now chooses to identify Brittney Griner as a straight white male.
